Subscription statuses
The Subscription card at the top of Settings → Billing shows one status badge and a one-line explanation. This page covers what each state means in practice.
| Badge | State | Assistant | What to do |
|---|---|---|---|
| Free trial | 14-day trial, every module unlocked | Works, once you add your own AI key | Pick a plan before the trial ends |
| Trial expired | Trial ended without a subscription | Off, workspace read-only | Subscribe on this page |
| Active | Paid and current | Works | Nothing |
| Payment failed | Last charge was declined; grace period running | Still works during grace | Update your payment method |
| Cancelled | Cancellation completed | Off after the period end | Resubscribe to come back |
| No subscription | Never subscribed, or modules granted manually | Depends on granted modules | Subscribe, or contact support |

Free trial
Every module is included and marked Included in trial. The card shows Trial days left and the Trial ends date. Chatting still requires your own provider key — see From trial to paid.
Trial expired
The workspace goes read-only: content can be read but not changed, and the widget stops answering. Write requests are refused with "This workspace is read-only. Add a plan or your own API key in Settings to make changes." Billing, AI Keys, notifications, and sign-in keep working so you can fix it. Nothing is deleted.
Active
Your modules are on and messages are unlimited on your own API key. The card shows Current period ends — the date of your next renewal.
Payment failed (grace period)
When Paddle can't charge your card, the subscription moves to Payment failed and a Grace period ends date appears in red. You get 3 days of grace: your modules keep working, and we send an email plus an in-app notification asking you to update your payment method before access is paused.
Update the card through the payment link in that email (Paddle handles payment methods). Once a charge succeeds, the status returns to Active and the grace date clears. Ignore it past the grace date and modules are turned off.
Retrying the same failing card doesn't help — fix the underlying reason (expired card, insufficient funds, bank block) first.
Cancelled and "Cancellation scheduled"
Cancelling doesn't take effect immediately, so the status alone won't tell you a cancellation is pending. Instead an extra amber Cancellation scheduled badge appears next to the status, with "Access continues until …" underneath.
While that badge is showing:
- your subscription still reads Active, and everything keeps working until that date;
- the Cancel subscription button is replaced by "To keep your subscription, contact support" — there's no self-serve undo yet;
- at the end of the period the subscription becomes Cancelled and the workspace goes read-only.
See Cancelling & refunds.
No subscription
Either a fresh workspace that never started a trial, or one running on modules we enabled for you — those cards read Granted by admin and keep working without a Paddle subscription.
